Took some time off this week to attend the TED-Global Conference in Oxford. 4 days - 60 lectures. Lots of exciting ideas and inspiration around the slogan ,And now the good news‘. A whole series of lectures dealing with the issue of sustainability, of which I will report in the coming days.
My freshest impression is just a few minutes old: A report by Marcel Dicke from the Netherlands who gives us a lot of good arguments why we should switch to an insect diet in the future, so that all people in the world can ingest animal proteins and protect the environment at the same time. One good reason: out of 10 kilos of forage we get 1 kilo of Pork, 3 kilos of beef, 5 kilos of poultry - but 9 pounds of locusts. Yummie! Dicke praises the grasshopper as "the shrimp of the land", and during the lunch break half the buffet is filled with insect delicacies. And the TEDsters snatch enthusiastically. As a sweet tooth I have overcome my first disgust and feasted on the insect-cookies (see photo). How many worms and insects were on them? No clue! But very crispy and tasty! More at www.bugs2eat.
