Those good old days: Back in 1962 it was still considered appropriate for an oil company to be proud of how much glacial ice could be melted with the energy generated from its oil production. Back then, Humble Oil (now Exxon) was one of the leading oil producers and bragged about the fact that the energy of their daily oil output could melt at least 7 million tons of glacial ice. Today, the energy of Exxon‘s daily oil production could already melt 79 million tons of glacial ice a day. That‘s a tidy amount of 912 tons per second! And the aftermath of climate change is not even included here.
